Sony Bravia TVCs are one of the best ads in town, from the balls bouncing in SF street, to blowing up paint in an empty housing commission in Glasgow, and of course the not-so recent ad above, with play-doh rabbits romping around the streets in New York. Kudos to Fallon. It’s fun, and colourful, but is it original?

Kozyndan
Kozyndan, the joint pseudonym of LA-based husband and wife artists, Kozue and Dan Kitchens, known in particular for their whimsical and occasionally absurd illustrations of modern cityscapes. They claimed they got ripped off by Sony using one of their early artwork (pictured above), which was shown to Passion Pictures 2 years ago, who was hired by Fallon to do the animation. And now 2 years later, a similar idea with rabbits romping around streets appears on screen.

Original or not, the TV ad is engaging, refreshing and the bigger than Ben Hur making of this ad is definitely jaw dropping. Here’s some facts about the ad:

• 2.5 tonnes of plasticine on set
• 40 animators
• 3 weeks
• 189 2ft bunnies
• 150 1ft cubes
• 10ft x 20ft purple wave
• 30ft giant rabbit.
• 6 cameras.
• 40 animators working through 4 hours generated 4 seconds of footage.
• 40 animators working on the same scene had never been attempted before.
• The 60 second spot will be constructed of approximately 100,000 stills.
